Interno Verde: discovering Ferrara's secret gardens

Ferrara is a city with many secrets to discover. Among them are some of the most evocative and wonderful gardens you can imagine, often hidden behind the walls of buildings or inserted in unknown corners of the city. How can you visit them or even know where they are? Interno Verde is an initiative organized by the Il Turco association in 2016 to show you these hidden gardens.

Once a year, for an entire weekend, you can discover where elegant Renaissance lawns, medieval vegetable gardens, unsuspected urban arboretums and small flowering oases once stood, jealously concealed and guarded by palace walls, boundary, gates and doorways.

Not just a festival devoted to hidden gardens

But it is not just a festival dedicated to hidden gardens. Interno Verde transforms private spaces into shared spaces, where participants are welcomed into lives that few are privileged to enjoy. Each garden tells a story, explores a past moment or opens a window to the present. It expresses the character and soul of those who have created and cared for it over time. It suggests itineraries and strategies for the future sustainability of the historic center.

Since its first edition in 2016, this festival has grown, spreading to Mantua and Parma, as well as being included in the European Zero Waste network as a sustainable event and having obtained ISO 20121 certification.

An original and curious way to discover the city from a different perspective!
