THE EXPERIENCE
The tour starts at the Estense Castle, a symbol of Ferrara: this military fortress underwent various transformations over approximately two centuries. It became the residence of the Este family and a magnificent court residence, which remained as such until the devolution of Ferrara to the Papal State in 1598.
Next is the nearby Piazza Trento e Trieste, the ancient Piazza delle Erbe; moreover, discovering the characteristic medieval streets of San Romano, Via delle Volte, arriving in Via Mazzini, the ancient site of the Jewish Ghetto. Here, in front of the Synagogue, the guide will tell about the prestigious and ancient community that has been present in Ferrara since 1492. At last, continuing along Via Terranuova and Corso della Giovecca we reach the "Renaissance city": Addizione Erculea, Quadrivio di Palazzo Diamanti and Piazza Ariostea. Piazza Ariostea is an elliptical ring of evocative beauty with at its centre a statue dedicated to Ludovico Ariosto, one of the greatest poets of the Italian Renaissance who wrote Orlando Furioso in Ferrara.
