From 14 October, the MEIS is hosting the new exhibition Sotto lo stesso cielo (Under the same sky) - curated by Amedeo Spagnoletto and Sharon Reichel - dedicated to Sukkot, the Jewish festival of huts.
Sukkot is one of the main festivities in the Jewish calendar: it celebrates the Jews' survival in the desert thanks to Heaven's providence and the precariousness of life - represented by the huts they built (the sukkah) -, but also the strong link with the rhythms of the earth, environmental sustainability and the centrality of water. The exhibition explores religious, traditional and artistic aspects and the close connection with nature: an original itinerary that invites visitors, both adults and children, to actively participate, interacting with what they see and hear and thus contributing to the enrichment of the exhibition's meanings.

At the culmination of the itinerary, ten wooden panels decorated with painted biblical subjects, produced in the Venetian area for a late 18th or 19th-century sukkah owned by Praglia Abbey, are presented for the first time: priceless works of art that have survived their ephemeral nature and have therefore remained inaccessible to the general public.

The installation - by architect Giulia Gallerani - reflects the values of the festival: made for the most part of triple-wave cardboard, it is environmentally friendly and recyclable, and represented a real challenge. In fact, the complex set of Sukkot themes was declined in order to propose an unusual and articulated exhibition itinerary, which calls to intervene, to participate, to get involved, and to connect religious symbolism to references that are becoming increasingly important in the contemporary world.

The exhibition is under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Ferrara, the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, the Jewish Community of Ferrara, Praglia Abbey, the Municipality of Santa Maria del Cedro, the European Consortium Mediterranean Cedar Lands of Calabria. Supporting body: Intesa Sanpaolo. It was also made possible thanks to the support of the Guglielmo De Lévy Foundation, Coop Alleanza 3.0, Tper, Avis and Coferasta.
