Botanical Garden

Are you passionate about historic gardens and looking for them throughout your vacation? Or do you simply want to add a green touch to your stay without sacrificing your historic sightseeing? The Botanical Garden of the University of Ferrara is found in a prime location, in the heart of the Addizione Erculea, a stone's throw from Palazzo Diamanti and Piazza Ariostea. Housed in the courtyard of Palazzo Turchi di Bagno, here you can admire and learn more about more than 2000 different plant species.

Historical Notes

Although the botanical garden was established only in 1771 by will of Pope Clement XIV, botanical research in Ferrara had already begun with the founding of the University in 1391. Ferrara was an important centre for the study of plants and their properties, thanks in part to the interest of several representatives of the Este court who were involved in interpreting botany in relation to applications in medicine and astrology.

Still today the garden fulfils an educational and research function and, thanks to its thought-out subdivision, you can independently discover the world's most amazing plants! You can also book a guided tour and learn about all the details from the university's experts!

Sustainability Pills

At the Botanical Garden is an initiative aimed at illustrating the sustainable practices implemented by the Botanical Garden to protect biodiversity. When we talk about sustainability we do not only refer to the environmental sphere but also involve the socio-cultural and economic spheres, which make up the entire sphere of human well-being. That is why it is important to investigate good practices that help us take care of the environment as well as ourselves!
