Bright colors, iconic faces, and images that forever changed the way we look at art. In Ferrara, you can immerse yourself in the world of Andy Warhol, the protagonist of the exhibition Andy Warhol. Ladies and Gentlemen, hosted in the stunning spaces of Palazzo dei Diamanti.

This is not the first time Warhol’s art has come to the city. In 1975, Andy Warhol visited Ferrara in a truly unconventional way: he arrived by private jet and attended the opening of his exhibition without showing much interest in the city’s most famous landmarks. It is said that he wasn’t even interested in visiting the Estense Castle. A detail that says a lot about his perspective—modern, direct, always looking elsewhere.
Today, that same energy comes back to life in the rooms of Palazzo dei Diamanti, creating a fascinating dialogue between past and contemporary culture. The exhibition takes you inside Warhol’s visual universe, where art and mass culture merge to create timeless icons.
At the heart of the exhibition is the Ladies and Gentlemen series, a vibrant and powerful gallery in which Warhol portrays African American and Latin American drag queens, shifting the focus from celebrity image to individual identity. Faces, colors, and contrasts come together to form a striking visual narrative that still feels incredibly relevant today.
Alongside this series, the exhibition features over 150 works, including paintings, silkscreens, drawings, and Polaroids. From portraits of international stars to more intimate self-portraits, each image reveals a new way of seeing the world, anticipating themes such as identity construction and the power of images in contemporary society.
Visiting the exhibition also means experiencing Palazzo dei Diamanti in a different way. The Renaissance geometry of the building meets pop aesthetics, creating a compelling contrast that makes the visit even more engaging.
After your visit, you can continue along Corso Ercole I d’Este -one of the most elegant Renaissance avenues in Europe - or relax in the nearby gardens and museums of the Addizione Erculea.
