PARCO MASSARI - MASSARI PARK

Between your visits to our museum and walks among the most beautiful places in our city, you will definitely need somewhere to relax. Parco Massari is the perfect place to take a break while admiring a wonderful historical setting. A beautiful garden space designed in the elegant and refined English style. Located amid the Addizione Erculea, it is within walking distance of the wonderful Quadrivio degli Angeli with the Palazzo dei Diamanti, Piazza Ariostea, the Certosa Monumentale and the beautiful City Walls.

HISTORICAL NOTES

The park was designed in 1780 by Ferrara architect Luigi Bertelli at the request of the marquis Camillo Bevilacqua. It was originally adorned with numerous sculptures, flowering plants and citrus trees, which perfumed its paths.
In the 19th century, the complex passed into the hands of the Massari counts, who modified the garden according to English fashion. This design can still be seen today: walking inside the park you will notice the characteristic flowerbed designs (still based on 19th-century elevation) and many more centuries-old trees, such as the two majestic cedars of Lebanon at the entrance. The park became the property of the Municipality of Ferrara in 1936 and has been in public use ever since.
Parco Massari constitutes the largest green space to date within the city walls, with its four hectares of stunning greenery that you should not miss!
